What is a salve?

Salves are medicinal ointments used for healing or relieving wounds, sores, bites, scrapes, burns, and irritated skin. They contain oil infused with plant materials, and are combined with a type of wax, typically beeswax.

The ingredients in the salve determines what the intended use is. Our Wonder Salve contains calendula for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, comfrey for the healing of cuts and bruises, and chickweed to combat itchiness associated with bug bites and stings. Essentially, it's an all-in-one salve that you can use for the relief of most skin conditions and injuries.

What's the texture like?

In general, the texture of most salves sits between a very soft ointment and a hard balm. Ours is right in the middle. There's a slight resistance before your fingers sink in, and once applied, the salve spreads easily.

Note that the temperature can affect the consistency of the salve. If you want a harder salve, put it into the fridge.

How often do I use it?

As often as you like!

How long does it last?

It depends on how often you use it and which size you get. the 15g tin is perfect for travelling or for keeping in your bag just in case. It could last for months if not used often, or a few weeks if applied daily. As for the 60g size, it can last for months, up to a year if not used often. A small amount goes a long way!
